Christ is Risen

Jesus Has Risen

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ Then they remembered his words.

When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. 11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. 12 Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
-- From the Gospel of Luke, The Holy Bible (New International Version)

I am not a Christian, and so I hope that those of you who are, will forgive my presumptuousness in quoting Scripture on this holy day. But, the older I get and the more I read into the Christian faith, the more convinced I become that it is the one True Faith, that we are under the watchful and loving eye of the Almighty God, and that Jesus Christ is the Saviour that He was prophesied to be, that He proved Himself to be, and that He was murdered for being.

This day is a beacon of hope for all of us. On this day, the Lord Christ showed us all that evil will not prevail. On this day, He smashed down the Gates of Hell and returned to His followers. On this day, He transformed a group of weak, timid, wavering, frightened men into lions for the faith, who went forth into the world with smiles on their faces and the love of God in their hearts, and often died horrible deaths for their trouble.

And in the process, they spread the Gospel of the Lord to every corner of the Earth.

I say that Mankind is immeasurably better off for that fact.

Rejoice, my friends and brothers. Christ is Risen. He is Risen indeed!

In my original version of this post I neglected to provide a link to the artist of the picture given above. This was entirely my fault and an egregious error that I will correct here. I recommend that readers head over to the website of Jon McNaughton, where you can find prints of the painting above, as well as many other splendid works of art, by a great artist and a good and decent man.
